Documents required for IRCTC agent registration
The full checklist, and — more useful — the two document problems that account for most rejected applications. Both are fixable in advance, and both are far cheaper to find now than after you have paid.

PAN card
Yours, and not already registered on a personal IRCTC account. This is the single biggest cause of rejection.
Aadhaar card
Linked to the mobile number you intend to use, because OTP verification depends on that link.
Photograph
Recent, passport style, clear. A photograph from a decade ago creates avoidable questions.
Address proof
Of the business premises or of the applicant. It does not need to be a retail shop, but there must be an address.
Bank account
In the applicant or business name. Used for adding wallet balance to your account and booking tickets.
Mobile & email
Both must be free of any existing IRCTC account. Each can sit on one account only.

The personal KYC stays the same. What changes is the entity paperwork that sits on top of it.
- Individual / sole proprietor
- PAN, Aadhaar, photograph, address proof, bank account. A shop registration where you have one.
- Travel agency
- The above for the proprietor or signatory, plus your agency registration documents.
- Partnership firm
- Partnership deed, firm PAN, and the personal KYC of the authorised partner.
- Private limited company
- Certificate of incorporation, company PAN, and the KYC of the authorised signatory.
Two problems cause most rejections. Both are avoidable.
Neither has anything to do with how good your documents look.
One: your PAN is already on a personal IRCTC account. Almost everyone who has booked a train ticket online in the last fifteen years has one. A PAN sits on one account, so that account has to be dealt with before an agent registration can complete.
Two: your mobile number or email is already in use on IRCTC. Same rule — one account each. The fix is either to change the details on the old personal account or to use a different number and email for the agent ID.
Both take a few minutes to check and can take days to unpick once an application is in flight. Check them tonight rather than after you have paid.
Questions about the paperwork.
What documents are required for IRCTC agent registration?
PAN, Aadhaar, a recent photograph, address proof, a bank account, and a mobile number and email address that are not already attached to any IRCTC account. Businesses add their entity documents on top of that.
Why does my PAN need to be free of a personal IRCTC account?
Because a PAN can sit on one IRCTC account, and an agent registration is a different kind of account. If you booked your own family's tickets on a personal ID years ago, that PAN is already committed and the agent application will not complete until it is resolved.
What if my mobile number is already registered with IRCTC?
Either change the number on the old personal account or use a different number for the agent registration. Sort it before applying — discovering it at the verification stage costs you time, and discovering it after paying costs more than that.
Do I need a GST number?
Not as an individual applicant. Where a business has GST registration it is submitted with the entity documents.
Do I need a shop or an office?
You need a business address. It does not have to be a retail shop, though a counter with walk-in footfall is what makes the economics work in practice.
Are photocopies acceptable, or do you need originals?
Clear scans or photographs are what we work from. What matters is legibility — a blurred PAN card is the most common reason a file goes back and forth.
What happens if a document is wrong?
We tell you before it goes anywhere. That is the point of checking first: the fee is non-refundable, so we run the eligibility check on your PAN, mobile number and email before any payment is due. The first instalment comes only after that check passes.
How long does verification take?
The check at our end is quick. What follows is IRCTC's own KYC and activation, which is not something any provider controls — treat a guaranteed timeline for that stage as a warning sign.
Can a partnership or company register?
Yes. Individual entrepreneurs, proprietorships, travel agencies, partnerships and private limited companies can all hold an agent ID. The entity documents differ; the personal KYC of the signatory does not.
What do I get once the documents clear?
An agent ID in your own business name, a Class 3 digital signature or OTP login, and an authorisation letter — see agent certificate.
