Cost to become an IRCTC agent: first-year sums
Add up the first-year cost of an IRCTC agent ID with SiOnline: ₹3,000 or ₹4,000 to register, ₹236 a month, optional DSC, and what recurs in year two.
Asking what an IRCTC agent ID costs can get you very different numbers, because “the cost” can mean different things. One quote might show only the registration fee. Another might add the monthly charge. A third might leave out something that shows up on your account later.
So let’s do the sum properly, once, with every line written down. The figures below come from SiOnline’s IRCTC agent registration fees page and its renewal page, as of 17 October 2026. Think of this as a rate card added up. It isn’t a quote. Fees and terms can change, so confirm each one in writing before you pay.
How do you work out the first-year total?
There are three things you need to decide: the plan (Standard or Premium), the login type (OTP login, DSC login or both), and the number of months for which monthly maintenance applies to your ID. Twelve months is the full-year case. Ask your provider in writing when it starts.
Then the sum is:
First-year total = registration + (months × the monthly rate) + the optional DSC (only if chosen) + top-up fees (only if you exceed your daily limit).
Every piece is a published rate times a count. Nothing in there guesses how much you’ll earn or how many tickets you’ll book. That’s on purpose. We can add up what a rate card says. We can’t add up what your shop will do.
What does registration cost?
SiOnline’s Standard registration is ₹3,000 incl. GST. You pay it once and it’s non-refundable (as of 17 October 2026). It’s for OTP login.
Premium is ₹4,000 incl. GST. Apart from IRCTC, it adds IRCTC tourism services, FASTag, bill payments and PAN card, and “more”, which SiOnline explains on a call (as of 17 October 2026). So ask what “more” covers before you pay the extra ₹1,000.
You can pay in two instalments. The first is due at signup, and the second when document verification completes. The agent ID is created only after full payment.
What does the monthly maintenance add?
Monthly maintenance is ₹236 per month on IRCTC agent IDs, as of 17 October 2026. It’s a separate charge. It doesn’t replace either yearly renewal. And SiOnline’s ₹3,000 and ₹4,000 headline figures don’t include it. Check for that line in any quote you compare.
Over twelve months, 12 × ₹236 = ₹2,832 (as of 17 October 2026). Here’s a good question to send: “From which month does maintenance start on my ID, and what is the amount for my plan?” Use the answer as the number of months in the formula.
| Scenario | Registration | Maintenance, 12 months | First-year total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard plan, OTP login | ₹3,000 | ₹2,832 | ₹5,832 |
| Premium plan, OTP login | ₹4,000 | ₹2,832 | ₹6,832 |
These are the rates as of 17 October 2026. Both rows assume maintenance for all twelve months, so they aren’t predictions. Your number of months may be different.
What if you add the optional DSC?
If you add the optional Class 3 DSC at ₹6,000 incl. GST for two years, the first-year sum for the first row becomes ₹5,832 + ₹6,000 = ₹11,832. The DSC is valid for two years, so it doesn’t fall in year two. On SiOnline’s current fees page, DSC renewal is ₹6,000 incl. GST every 2 years (as of 17 October 2026). If you want a DSC-only registration, ask for the amount in writing.
Do you have to buy a DSC?
SiOnline treats the Class 3 DSC as optional, so the sums above don’t need it.
A retail agent can log in with OTP, or with a Class 3 DSC if they hold one (IRCTC integration policy, effective 2 September 2020).
What recurs in year two?
After the first year, three charges come back. The agent ID renewal is ₹2,360 per year and the OTP login renewal is ₹1,180 per year, both still valid as of 17 October 2026. OTP login is valid for one year and a DSC for two. For an agent on OTP login, a full year looks like this.
| Recurring charge | Amount |
|---|---|
| Agent ID renewal | ₹2,360 |
| OTP login renewal | ₹1,180 |
| Monthly maintenance, 12 × ₹236 | ₹2,832 |
| Total for a full year | ₹6,372 |
The ₹6,000 DSC renewal isn’t in that total (as of 17 October 2026). It falls due every two years, and only for DSC login. Before you pay, ask whether the first renewal is counted from your activation date or from a fixed date, which renewal amount applies to your plan, and whether maintenance includes GST. See IRCTC agent ID renewal for the cycle.
A two-year example
Let’s put years one and two side by side. Say you choose Standard, OTP login, no DSC, and maintenance applies for all twelve months in both years. This is an example built from the rate card, not a quote.
- Year one: ₹5,832 in total, as of 17 October 2026. That is ₹3,000 to register, then twelve months of maintenance on top.
- Year two: ₹6,372 in total, as of 17 October 2026. That is the agent ID renewal and the OTP login renewal from the table above, plus twelve months of maintenance.
- Two years together: ₹5,832 + ₹6,372 = ₹12,204.
That sum leaves out booking-time amounts, any top-up fees above your daily limit and the optional DSC. It also assumes both renewals fall due in year two. That’s why the question about when your first renewal is counted from matters. If it changes the timing, it changes the year each amount lands in.
What about the wallet balance and top-ups?
The minimum wallet balance is ₹199, as of 17 October 2026. It’s held on your account and it isn’t a fee, so it stays out of every total above. It’s held as a deposit and isn’t specific to IRCTC, FASTag or UTI.
Wallet top-up is free up to your defined daily limit. Above that limit the charge is ₹100 per transaction (as of 17 October 2026). So the formula’s last term becomes the number of such top-ups × ₹100. Ask what your daily limit is before you plan how you’ll top up.
What does the total leave out?
A first-year total adds up SiOnline’s fees. It doesn’t add up everything that touches your budget.
- Booking-time amounts. SiOnline charges the agent ticket fare, payment-gateway charges and IRCTC charges on bookings, pays agents no commission and shares no payment-gateway charges. Payment-gateway charges: being confirmed with IRCTC.
- The agent charge. ₹40 per PNR for AC classes and ₹20 per PNR for non-AC classes is printed on the ticket and collected from the customer (as of 17 October 2026). It isn’t part of the sum, because the customer pays it.
- Earnings. No earnings figure is given or implied, and none is needed to add up costs.
- Equipment and running costs. A computer, internet and your own time are your costs and aren’t in this sum.
How do you check another provider’s quote?
Put it through the same formula. Write each line of their quote next to the lines above: registration, monthly maintenance, yearly renewal, OTP login renewal, optional DSC, top-up fee. A quote that skips a line isn’t necessarily cheaper. It may just be leaving that line for later.
Say one quote shows a lower registration fee and says nothing about monthly charges, while another shows a higher fee with the monthly charge written in. This is an example, but the point stands: the headline fee alone can’t tell you which one costs less over a year. Compare the whole list, line by line, not the headline.
What should you do before you pay?
- Ask for the eligibility check first. The first instalment is due at signup. The IRCTC agent registration page has the enquiry form.
- Ask for the plan, login type and months of maintenance in writing.
- Ask which login options apply to your ID, given IRCTC’s documents.
- Ask when the first renewal falls due and which renewal amount applies to your plan.
- Ask whether the monthly maintenance charge includes GST.
- Compare any other provider’s quote line by line against the same formula.
You can also check any provider on IRCTC’s own register. SiOnline appears as “M/s SI Online Technomart Pvt. Ltd., Ratlam” on page 6, row 27 of the Internet Cafe Scheme (ICS) list in IRCTC’s register of Principal Service Providers (PSP). Many providers are listed, so being listed isn’t a reason to choose one on its own. The PSP list page explains how to check.
