How to apply for IRCTC agent registration
The full application sequence, the two document problems that cause most rejections, and when you pay and why a reputable provider checks your eligibility first.
Before you start
- A PAN not already registered on a personal IRCTC account
- An Aadhaar linked to the mobile number you will use
- A mobile number and email address not already attached to any IRCTC account
- A business address
The process itself is not complicated. What catches people out is a single structural fact that nobody tells you at the start: you cannot apply to IRCTC.
IRCTC authorises companies — Principal Service Providers — and those companies onboard agents. So the first real decision is not how to apply. It is who to apply through.
Step 0: check the provider, not the price
Before anything else, confirm the company you are about to pay is actually on IRCTC’s register. It takes about ten seconds and it is the only step here that is genuinely irreversible if you get it wrong.
How to verify any PSP walks through it. Ask for a page and row number; a provider who cannot give you one has told you something important.
Step 1: check your own eligibility
Four things, and two of them cause most rejections:
- 18 or over.
- A PAN that is not already registered on a personal IRCTC account. This is the big one.
- An Aadhaar linked to the mobile number you intend to use — OTP verification depends on it.
- A business address. Not necessarily a shop, but an address.
Step 2: the mobile and email problem
Read this properly, because it derails more applications than anything else.
An IRCTC mobile number and email address can each sit on one account only. If you have ever created a personal IRCTC account — to book your own family’s tickets years ago, perhaps — then that number and that email are taken.
The agent application will not go through until it is resolved, and finding out at the verification stage is much better than finding out after paying.
If this applies to you:
- Either change the contact details on the old personal account
- Or use a different number and email for the agent registration
- Sort it before you apply, not during
Step 3: gather the documents
| Document | Notes |
|---|---|
| PAN card | Yours, and not on a personal IRCTC ID |
| Aadhaar card | Linked to the mobile you will use |
| Photograph | Recent, passport style |
| Address proof | Of the business premises or the applicant |
| Mobile number | Unique to this registration |
| Email address | Unique to this registration |
| Business proof | Shop registration, GST or partnership papers where they exist |
Step 4: submit and be verified
Send the documents to your provider. A good one will check every item against IRCTC’s current requirements and come back to you about anything that will not stand.
This step is the entire value of choosing carefully. A provider who forwards whatever you send without looking at it is not saving you time — they are moving the failure from now to six weeks from now, after you have paid.
Step 5: pay in two instalments, after the eligibility check
The registration fee is non-refundable.
That single fact should determine when you pay. If a provider asks for money before anyone has checked your PAN, mobile number and email, they have arranged things so that a rejected application costs you rather than them.
With us you can pay in two instalments. The first instalment is due after your eligibility check passes. The second is due when document verification completes. Your agent ID is created only after 100% payment. It is worth asking any provider you are considering where in their process payment sits, and why.
Step 6: KYC and activation
The application goes to IRCTC, which completes its own checks. Your agent ID is created only after 100% payment.
Nothing you or your provider does speeds this up. Anyone promising a guaranteed timeline for this stage is describing something they do not control.
Step 7: you are live
You receive:
- Your agent ID, issued in your own business name
- A Class 3 digital signature or OTP login
- An authorisation letter for your customers
Sign in once immediately — do not wait until a customer is standing there. The agent login guide covers the errors that catch people out on day one.
A note on what happens next
The agent ID is the beginning rather than the end. Most agents add tourism, FASTag, PAN card work or bill payments onto the same counter afterwards, because the footfall ticketing creates is the actual asset.
That is worth knowing at the start, because it changes what a good provider looks like: not just who can get you an agent ID, but who you will still want to be dealing with in two years.
Never share your password. Nobody at SiOnline needs it, and no legitimate service will ask. If you need help, send us your agent ID — not your credentials.
